Just in time for the Holiday’s!

I don’t know about your family, but ours is making cookies, peanut Butter balls, Divinity, and a few other yummy’s for the local Homeless mens shelter here. I have been searching for the BEST (and I do mean the BEST0 sugar cookie recipe and I do believe we have found it.

Not to hard, not to sweet but juuuuusssttt right. 🙂

This sugar cookie recipe was given to my mother by my childhood friend’s mother when I was little.  I collected recipes even back then and when I was old enough to start baking on my own, this was one of the first recipes I started to make.  It is a Christmas tradition at our house, loved by everyone.   This is absolutely, hands down the best sugar cookie recipe I have ever tasted.  Try them out and let me know if you agree!

4 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup shortening

1/2 teaspoon salt

Mix these 4 ingredients as if you mixing a pie crust.  Cutting the shortening into the flour, salt and baking powder with a pastry blender.

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup (heaping) sugar.

2 eggs, beaten

1/3 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

Add the baking soda to the sugar.  Mix the eggs with the milk and the vanilla and then add it to the sugar mixture.  Mix well.  Pour this into the flour mixture and combine until smooth.  Roll the dough out onto a floured surface.  Use a cookie cutter to cut out your favorite shape. Top with colored sugar or leave plain.  Bake at 375 degrees for 7-9 minutes depending on how thick your cookies are.

I got the recipe from this lady, and trust me, you want to check out her page. 🙂

  1. Spencer Blake says:

I liked them but a little too fluffy. Kind-of like the ones you get at Publix with the icing.

I have to say, these were pretty good.
